Attention: Walgreens Pharmacy Users

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Do you use Walgreens Pharmacy for you and/or your families’ prescriptions?  If so you will definitely want to hear about the latest news with the Walgreens and Express Script contract and how it will affect you.  An unsuccessful negotiation between Walgreens and Express Scripts has caused Walgreens to no longer be a part of the Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network as of January 1, 2012.  This is bad news for those of you who find going to Walgreens very convenient and comfortable.   Without this contract most of you will have to drive further to get your prescriptions, you may not find a location that offers 24 hour service and to top it off your costs aren’t going to go down (stated by Express Scripts themselves).  This is also bad news for our military families.  A contract for the health and prescription drug program for our military men and women, Tricare, was also negotiated unsuccessfully.

Since there were so many Express Scripts patients using Walgreens pharmacies for years, Walgreens has stepped up and has come out with its own plan to minimize the inconvenience and disruption that could have been caused by the non-renewal of contract.  Walgreens cares about their patients and wants to help make it possible for you to still use their pharmacy.

First check with your local Walgreens Pharmacist to see if you are affected by this contract change (you can also check the back of your insurance cards for the name Express Script.  If you are impacted this is what Walgreens is offering you.  They are offering a special discount on annual memberships for its Walgreens Prescription Savings Club.  This special is only during the month of January; you can join for only $5 or $10 for a family.  This will help you save on more than 8,000 brand name and all generic medications.  They offer more than 400 generics with a three-month supply for less than $1 a week.  This is an amazing deal for those of you who are affected.  The normal membership fees are $20 or $35 for a family, which equals huge savings!

When it comes down to business, Express Scripts really wants customers to use their own mail order pharmacy business instead of using local community pharmacies.  You shouldn’t have to give up on your local pharmacy or Walgreens and lose your favorite pharmacist you have been going to for years.  So hurry and take advantage of this great offer!
